Hello Ladies! My name is Brook (Maki) Lautenslager and I'm the Philanthropy Chair for EVAC. I graduated from CNU in 1999 and I joined Gamma Phi Beta as a freshman and was part of the Lambda class. I have been married for 11 years to Andrew Lautenslager, who was a Pi Kappa Phi at CNU. We have a beautiful three year old daughter named Kaitlyn. I have been a part of the EVAC chapter pretty much ever since I graduated and it has given me the opportunity to meet and get to know many sisters that I would have never met if I hadn't stayed involved. I'm excited to be a part of this new EVAC chapter because there are many new sisters getting involved and it's exciting to hear all of their new and fresh ideas for the chapter.
I'm also excited about being the Philanthropy chair! Our new national philanthropy, Girls on the Run, has a local chapter in the area. Girls on the Run is an afterschool program that uses the power of running to prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and and healthy living. They incorpate training for a 5k race with lessons that encourage third through eighth grade girls to develop essential life skills. To learn more visit www.gotrshr.org.
The Girls on the Run spring 5k race is on May 11th at Town Pointe Park in Norfolk and anyone can run in the race. Currently the website is just allowing the girls participating in the program to register, but soon they should have registration open for just the race. I will let you all know when that happens. Please save this date on your calendars. Stayed tuned for more details on how we will be helping Girls on the Run and how you can get involved.
Love in IIKE,
Brook
